WORLDSBK COMES TO EUROPE, PORTIMAO’S ROLLERCOASTER HOSTS ROUND 02!

WORLDSBK COMES TO EUROPE, PORTIMAO’S ROLLERCOASTER HOSTS ROUND 02!

A month after the Australian Round, WorldSBK is back in action! First European race, Portimao, a breathtaking track, full of ups and downs, adrenaline-filled, recently built, one of the newest and most impressive facilities on the calendar.

The Algarve circuit is usually well familiar to the WorldSBK riders, as a test track during the winter; this year, however, in the four days held here between January and March, the weather has always influenced the sessions, allowing just few laps in excellent asphalt conditions. The last two days a couple of weeks ago were more useful, where data and information were collected to get ready and with a good starting base for Round 02. Andrea Iannone and Team Go Eleven come from an excellent start of the season, currently in third place in the World Championship; here in Portugal, the track is one of the least familiar to the rider from Vasto, who in 2024 raced in the “Rollercoaster” for the first time, reaching fourth place in the Sunday race, after a weekend of constant growth. The goal is to improve on what was done last year and find a good feeling with the Ducati V4-R right from Friday’s practice. A track so full of ups and downs complicates the bike’s set-up; finding the right connection with the ground and distributing the power correctly is crucial to get good results. The weather seems to suggest perfect conditions for the weekend, with a light wind that should not bother the riders on the track. On the tyre side, the race over a distance of 20 laps will be with the SC0 compounds (present in the standard version and the E0125 development version), while for qualifying the solution that allows for greater performance is the SCX.

Andrea Iannone (Rider):

“I am happy and pleased to be back on the bike a month after the first race. Portimao is a particular track, last year it was my first time here and, on the Sunday of the race, we managed to find a good solution. We come from a first round in which we were always competitive, I hope to be able to start from a good base and find a good set-up tomorrow. In the most recent tests in Portimao, despite the weather conditions not being ideal, we collected a lot of useful information. Let’s see tomorrow where we are compared to the other riders on the track.”
