THOUGH TRACK, ANDREA CLOSES THE GAP THROUGH DAY-1!

THOUGH TRACK, ANDREA CLOSES THE GAP THROUGH DAY-1!

A learning Friday for Andrea Iannone and Team Go Eleven on the Magny-Cours track. Easy layout to learn, while some more difficulty arose in finding the right line, especially in blind corners like one and eight, where there is no internal reference kerb. Many laps completed in FP 1, always constantly improving, then a second session that saw the gap significantly reduced and close less than half a second from the Top 8. A Day 1 very similar to what happened on all the other new tracks, such as Most, Donington and Portimao. Tomorrow will be a much more indicative day for the rest of the weekend.

In FP 1 we started with the new rear development tyre, to keep safe the probable SC0 and SCX race compounds. Andrea Iannone tried to find the references in the most difficult areas of the track. He didn’t improve significantly at the end, also due to hard rear drop as the laps went by. The fairly low temperatures, around 18/20 degrees, negatively affect tyre drop. Some adjustments are needed both in electronics and set-up to improve slow corners and acceleration out of corners.

Free Practice 1:
P 1   T. Razgatlioglu   1.36.347
P 2   G. Gerloff   + 0.353
P 3   M. Van Der Mark   + 0.669

P 16   A. Iannone   + 2.089

In FP 2 the work focused on the geometry of the bike, intervening on both the front and the rear. From the first laps the rider from Vasto improved the first and second sectors significantly, but still complained about difficulties in the last part of the track. One second and three tenths gap from the top means a result in line with the previous Friday on “new” tracks, so tomorrow seems to be clearly better.

Free Practice 2:
P 1   M. Van Der Mark   1.36.010
P 2   N. Bulega   + 0.149
P 3   G. Gerloff   + 0.380

P 16   A. Iannone   + 1.376

Andrea Iannone (Rider):

“Today was my first time on this track here at Magny-Cours. It wasn’t an easy session because we have no previous experience on this track. It took me a while to find the right references today, but overall it was an interesting day. There is room for improvement and we will try to do our best for the weekend.”
