WORLDSBK LANDS IN EUROPE, MONTMELO’ HOSTS ROUND 02!
About a month, thousands of kilometers away, from Phillip Island to the gates of Barcelona; WorldSBK returns to Europe for the second Round of the 2024 season!
4,657 metres, 8 right turns, 6 left turns; Spectacular track, really hard to face, the Circuit de Montmelò became a must-see in the WorldSBK calendar. This year the riders will come with a lot of data accumulated in the fruitful two days of testing held last week. The weather conditions seem almost similar to the tests, with a slight risk of rain on Sunday. The Catalan Round is characterized by a totally different asphalt compared to Australia; if in Phillip Island there was talk of excessive grip, in Barcelona it is the opposite. Finding grip, especially at the rear, and managing tyre drop will make the difference over the weekend. An important news is the introduction of two new tyre solutions, one front (the 516) and one rear (the 900) which will be evaluated during free practice. Some comparisons with traditional tyres were carried out in the tests, but laptimes and datas are still needed to be ready for the race.
“We are preparing to face the second weekend of the Championship, the first European race. Montmelò is historically a very particular track, characterized by little grip. We will have to be very careful in managing the race. The tests held so far give us confidence but we must remain focused. We will give 100%, as a rider and as a team I hope to have fun and get a positive result, fingers crossed.”
